    correct oil

    by jt7602 » Fri Oct 05, 2007 9:11 am

Hello CRF's - In the supplied manual, Honda recommends GN4 oil for both the engine and tranny. In the little insert they provide, Honda lists HP4M (w/molybdenum) for the engine, and regular HP4 for the tranny. I noticed this after changing the engine oil and filter w/ GN4. Does it matter? thanks, and LOVE the bike!

I run the HP4 but I don't think it really matters to much but I like the semi synthetics despite the added cost.

Just make sure you follow which on takes moly and which doesn't if you use it. That is important, you'll see guys run all kinds of oil in the CRF if you look around a bit but just change it at regular or just before intervals and check you valves and you should be fine.

    Enjoy riding!

I run GN4 in the engine side and 80w85 in the tranny.

Aspired, if your still looking, have you ever ridden at Aztalan Cycle Club?

I used to use the 80w85 in my 2 stroker tranny - works well.

No I still have to get over there found a nice track listing on Thumper Talk but I live in Menomonie which is by Eau Claire (left hand side of WI) this mean I usaully go to MN motocross tracks for MX but limited to much trailriding close by that allows bikes and not just quads.

OK what is the trick to filling the tranny side? I spilled about a 1/4 of the oil I tried to pour in.
