    150R valve problems

    by Tony » Thu Jul 05, 2007 8:37 pm

Has any one had to adjust or replace there valves for the 150R?
My son’s bike was having trouble starting and wouldn't stay running with out continual revving. I took it into the Honda dealer and the mechanic said he had to shim the valves and that he felt the valves might need to be redone soon. We have about 60+ hours on the bike and do some pretty long trail riding.

the valves on the R and X need to be checked and shimmed on a regular basis. If you search the site for valves you will see all the posts regarding them. When it's apart you can switch to the better valves and seats.

Yup, especialy since if you guys are doing a lo tof long trail rides I'd look into Kibblewhite or someone else who makes stainless steel valves (and springs)for the 150R.
You should make sure that the valve seats get re-cut if possible or just start out with a new head.
Don't cut any corners when doing a valve job on any of these modern thumpers or you'll wind up doing it again and sooner. Done right you'll get a lot of service out of them. Doug
