There is still the matter of weight.

Yeah, for less than $ 400 bucks , the X can equal the R, but for no amount of money the R can equal the X.

    Hahaha, beat that!!!
    Fixed!

    OK.

Here's what you do if you really want to "dum down" your R: :(
make sure your airfilter is dirty so that not much air flows through it, run 1 size large pilot jet with two sizes smaller main, unscew your clicker almost fully(if you aren't satisfied with just moving the clickers, trade springs with a X rider, they are always more than happy to get rid of the stock ones).

Is that what you wanted to know how to do?

Oh no, here we go again!

Scott, get a 250 or a 450, an X or an R, but don't tell anyone for a while, it will only fuel the fire and they'll keep at it all week. Good natured banter, but they can go on...

Woodsman, you seem like a nice young man, but you're dealing with THE ~, you know you're gonna lose eventually! ;)

The only real solution is to get one of each. There.

    Quite true !
Regardless, there's not a, uh, swingin' banana, that's it, that can get everything out of either the X or the R on this board . Anyone who can gets paid to ride and free bikes. From a racing stand point if you're not an "A"motocrosser anyone who is can get on a stock 450X and whip your tail around any motocross track with the 'A' rider on the X and our hapless victim on the R ,08 or not.... it won't matter.
To make the R suitable for off-road you need to put as much or more money into it than you do the X to extract all it's potential.
I've had an X and loved it, I have an R and love it. They're a little different from each other but both outstanding bikes. Doug

I will probably lose the first time you guy and girls host a ride up near me. After that, I won't be able to brag or complain as loudly

Until then, the R Rocks and the X suX!

I have the 450r and I think it rides and handles better then my old 250x. But I like the stiffer suspension. no matter what model you look under there will be two or three guys going at it on which is better. You have to look at what type of riding your going to be doing. If you ride mostly trail then the x might be a better fit. If you are going to be doing any track riding than i suggest the r. Another thing to look at is if you want to kick start a bike or just want to hit a sissy little button. any questions about ether can be answered here. Agent,jaws,124,and many others know a lot about these bikes. anyways the 150 will be way to small.

or just want to hit a sissy little button

Well, I have a 450R too, and I, though my bike can start with a hand instead of a boot, wish it had an e-start.
In a couple -three years they'll ALL have e-start,and that'll be a happy day.
There isn't a thing in the world "manly" about kick starting a bike, unless of course one is insecure about that issue in other areas. Doug

I'll admit that when i had my 250x it was nice having the e-start if I stalled it on a hill. But there were a few times that it wouldn't start and i had to kick it to get it started. that is the nice part on the x is the back up kick start. my brothers 230 only has the e-start so if the battery goes dead you better start pushing.
