need help deciding on a bike!!

    by lulu » Mon Jun 08, 2009 8:50 am

hey i am new to the site. i am buying a new bike and having trouble deciding what is best for me. i am 5' 3" and about 125lbs. i currently ride a yz80 and am in need of an upgrade. i am looking at the big wheel crf150r and the crf250r. i rode my friends 250r and loved it once i was on it and riding. the problem is with my height i could hold it up balancing on one foot, but could not start it without standing on something. i do not know anyone who owns a big wheel 150r so i can not take one out and ride it. does it make enough of a difference lowering the bike? please help!!!

    Hi

I'm new to the site, too. I was trying to ride my boyfriend's old race bike (Husqvarna 125) and it was just too tall (I'm 5'5"). It was getting the better of me in the woods.

I looked at a lot of bikes and just got a used CRF230F, which I LOVE. Elec. start, ridiculously affordable, and I can touch the ground (He had to start the 125 for me, which was just pathetic). It's not the gutsiest bike but it's great for trails and you can do some mods, they tell me, to punch it up a bit. We do mostly updtate NY woods riding...

    Hey Lulu,

I ride a 150R big wheel and I love it! Im around 53kg and 1.68......the height is perfect for me and the weight is around 77kg.....Perfect! I dont think Ill upgrade anytime soon, as she's quite a nippy ride....a person can pimp the ride by changing exhausts, sprockets etc...but speed is not my game - we ride alot of technical here in SA......
But should you want a 250, a friend of mine lowered her 230 with a Koubalink....do a search for it online and Im sure youll find it......

    Hi Lulu,

I ride a 250x that my husband lowered for me with a 4"Kouba link and then we carved some foam out of the seat (also makes a great step seat so you don't slide back as easy!) I am 5'1", 110 pounds and it fits me perfect. I had a 150F and it was just so heavy, and top heavy. I thought about a 230F but that would have been even heavier and more top heavy. The 250x has awesome power, very low center of gravity, I can touch with both tip toes or be nearly flat footed on one side. I highly recommend this. I thought about the 150R but we do a lot of more technical slow trail riding and heard the 150R was a little peaky for that. So I guess it also depends what/where you ride.

    Hey whats up,
I'm new to this site also. I ride an 08 150r big wheel. Im 5'2 and 120lbs. The bike fits me perfect. I love it, and will not be wanting another bike any time soon. I mostly ride sand dunes, tracks and some trails.

    Hope that helps
