Attached is a link of a law floating around MA. The basics are this, No riding under 14 years old. 16-18 nothing over 90cc. All offences will be CRIMINAL not civil, fines and possible jail time. If someone calls the police on you a department of social services case is opened to determine if you are a fit parent. All of the DCR, Rangers, etc will have full police power. It didn't pass in July and is on hold till the fall session for now. This bill did pass the house of representatives earlier this year but not the senate.

Appears to apply to dirt bikes. Also reads like it is geared towards rider training/safety and supervision of 14 year olds and under by an adult that is 18 or over. The good part is the stipulation of funds collected will go for developing off-road areas. Probably have to sign waivers etc..

Too bad the US has changed to a blameless sue happy society....

Liability is a big issue for land and property owners.

It does apply to dirtbikes. The satate has been closing riding areas rather than looking for new ones. I would love to see the money used for new riding areas and for a training program. I agree with rider training but not the 14 year old age limit. The biggest issue I feel is the fact that as a parent if you let your child ride you become a criminal who can be arrested for child abuse/endangerment. I think the law will get rewritten this fall and hopefully it will become something that is fair for all.

The original post is old, but it reminds us that we need to be involved and voice your opinion to your local and federal representatives, or lose out!
