We dont avoid the mud, but we dont go looking for it either. We usually wait to things dry out a little before riding. My son runs hare scrambles and sometimes the mud is unavoidable.
Mud is hard on your seals and bearings. It will definitely shorten the life of your bike.
I leave the mud bogging to the four wheelers.
