Ok so i went to a meeting over the weekend in Imperial Valley, ca to talk about the lawsuit and what we can do right now to be proactive about the fight. basically the lawsuit is between a group called PEER (public employees for environmental responsibility)
http://www.peer.org/ and the California Department of parks and recreation. another group that is back this lawsuit behind peer is stop thrillcraft
http://www.stopthrillcraft.org/vision.htm. this group is all about preventing anything with a motor on it to have rights to use public lands, and i'm pretty disgusted with some of the comparisons that they use like comparing us riding in OHV areas and if we rode through the middle of Arlington Cemetery or the Lincoln Memorial.
now since the off road community has not been named in the suit we currently have no say in what will happen. right now the one thing we can do is write letters to the Department of Parks and Recreation Director as well as or state assembly and senators urging them that the department takes a position to defend Open riding at Ocotillo Wells SVRA.
The state has now less then 30 days to make a decision on whether they will take a stand and defend the park or let the lawsuit play out. Now if the State does decide to defend its position that when an Offroad group will be able to step in and be named as a defendant in the the lawsuit to fight these groups.
