    Amago Sports Track

    by crf~rob » Sat Sep 22, 2007 2:11 am

Anyone offer any input or opinion on Amago Sports park near San Diego?

I am supposed to head there with family this weekend and I have never been to that track.

If anyone has any info, I would appreciate it. What are the amenities there?

    Thanks

Amago is an O.K. track. The vet track is through the trees but has been very sandy in the turns making the uphill a challenge, nothing real difficult just messes up your momentum.

The Pro track is nice, my son can do all the gap jumps unfortunately the maintenance is not the best there. They only water on the weekends. There are portable-clean toilets, plenty of shady parking and camping areas, the people are all very friendly and considerate. Sunday morning tends to be the busiest but is still never crowded. The small peewee-80 track is fun to ride too.No paramedics but fire station is just down the road.(probably forest service volunteer. The fee is $20 and no membership charge.

All in all it's worth a trip we enjoy the scenery. If it rains the track will be pretty muddy, bikes get real heavy but it is so much fun sliding around in the mud.

Mini track is $15.00. Camping is free and you can go to Harrahs Casino buffet for dinner or Lake Henshaw has a family style restaurant about 10 minutes away. There is no running water at the track or food/drink.

You are very welcome. Bring the pit bike for the mini track. Wish we could go (DH is "on call" ) I can smell the wet dirt. :D I'm in Orange county and we only got a sprinkle, so the track will probably be just right. Have fun and ride a couple laps for us.

I'm actually scheduled to go to the riding school they have out there at the end of the month. It sounds like work might make me have to bump it a week, but I'll take a bunch of pics out there, and will get them up for all of you.

Well Amago day came and went. It was a whole lot of fun, although I feel old and slow now

As a long time desert / trail rider, this was my very 1st experience riding a track. I can tell you that it was truly a new experience and gives me such a new respect for track riders! I cant wait to get back to a track to try to build some confidence on track riding.

As far as Amago - Great place, the tracks were well maintained and watered down (partially due to weekend rain), they had a truck watering the course, off and on, all day. A lot of friendly people. We met a few other CRF'ers and actually ended up having dinner with them at the casino buffet down the road.

I am looking forward to going back!

I spent all day at Amago today with my kids. Showed up at around 9:30am, only one other family was there. Infrequently through the day a person drives through in a car and you sign a sheet and pay (at least on this Friday). At its peak, there was maybe 5 trucks w/ bikes around mid-day, most of the adults ride the "vet" track.

Had a great time, kids had the pee wee track all to themselves all day. There's also super-mini track with a bunch of doubles that's a lot of fun. It totally kicked my butt as I"m not used to this MX thing, but I will definitely return.

I hear you Rob... After I got home last night i just soaked in my spa, best feeling ever. Kids and I woke up today and we're all sore, but its the good kind of sore. Amazing the difference between plunking along trail riding, and really hitting a MX track. You use muscles you didn't even know existed.

I'm glad more people are trying this track. I think it is a wonderful family track. The kids can ride and you are not afraid of someone running them over in the parking lot. (like Elsinore) Adults can learn to ride with out feeling intimidated by all the macho duds.We have been going to Amago for about a year and have never come across any "shady characters. Bonnie from Coach 2 ride (usually there on the weekends) has given me some good advice on riding in general and I will be taking some lessons soon. It's a great place to practice without the fear of being mowed down. Hope to see some crf families there soon. Maybe we should plan a family track weekend and / or a group lesson or two.
    Anyone interested?

It is funny that you mention Bonnie. My brother and I met her at the ORBA show last year and we ended up at Amago so my brothers wife could get a lesson. By the end of the day, being passed by 14 year olds, like I was 95 years old driving in the slow lane on the FWY, I think it was me that needs the lessons!

Bonnie is great. Brenda (my sis in law) is going to take her 2nd lesson with Bonnie, and we are enrolling the kids too!
