I wanted to take a trip up to these trails with my son. There is not a lot of info out there for OHV riding off the 74. Has anyone been there and can you give me some info please? I called the Rangers up there and they said there is a sign for OHV and a parking lot that you have to pay 5 bucks in. After that you can see and follow the trails around. They were non-specific on any other details. Just looking for some help.

    Thanks

I have been there a couple of times.

I do not have any maps of the trails, but the park is pretty easy to find. There are signs marked on 74 where you need to turn off. I take the 74 from the 15 side.

You can just drop $5.00 in an envelope that they have where you park (kind of an honor system thing).

It's okay for an afternoon of riding.

If you come across a map of the trails, would you please post it? I did not venture out very far, as I was by myself, without a GPS. I don't even know if it's possible to get lost out there, but if it is, I would find a way to do it. FYI, someone previously posted a google earth type view of the trails on this site if that would help you.

If you have to drive any distance to get there it's not worth it. It's about 15 mins. off the hwy.(one lane road, do not need 4 wheel drive) There is a large flat area for staging and a small circle track for the young ones. The rest is unmaintained trails through scrub brush, some sandy-some rutted. If you drive about 100 yards past the staging area there is a beautiful camp ground with big oak trees and a rest room. One good thing, it is never crowded. It's been 2 years since we've been, I did read something awhile ago about trying to maintain the trails.

Rating 1-10 I give it a 2 for riding and an 8 for camping

I agree with you Beast Rider. I am very close, so for me it is worth the drive. If I really want to get a lot of really good riding in, I go elsewhere, which is typically the case.

I am in Temecula too. It's a shame with all the terain heading towards North San Diego County that we don't have some legal trails to ride between Temecula and Escondido or Julian and Anza.

    ride

    by Jim » Fri Jan 19, 2007 9:24 pm

I am down for the next couple of weeks. Our house is being painted. I let the contractor store all his stuff in our garage (blocking my bike) and he now decides he is not going to finish the job for a while. Also, I am doing some modifications to my bike, but I can barely squeeze in to the garage to work on it.

I usually go to Johnson Valley, but if you are going out to Ocotillo in the next few weeks PM me. I could use some new scenery.

Who is the painting contractor and what brand of spray equipment does he use??

I'll tell you if he's any good...

    paint

    by Jim » Sat Jan 20, 2007 2:19 pm

I should not have used the term contractor. I really meant unemployed loser brother-in-law who claims to be a jack of all trades and calls himself a contractor. He is using Dunn-Edwards paint. He uses a couple of different sprayers - not sure why. He is unlicensed and seems to be drunk half the time. But my wife owes me for life for this good deed.

I just got back from Ocotillo, we got blown out early this afternoon. Oh well. Yesterday was really nice.

Anyone that is interested, I am planning on riding Wildomar this Saturday... only if the weather holds up. If it is raining here then we are going up to Stoddard.

    NCLR1,

I can't make it Saturday as I my wife has me installing window blinds all day. I was planning on going in the morning Sunday, before the Superbowl for a couple of hours just to shake the cobb webs off of the bike. Just thought I would let you know in case your Saturday plans fall through.

    Jim,

That's cool. We will see what happens. Not sure if I will be in condition to ride, (UFC Saturday night=lots of beer and chest pounding) so have fun and I will let you know if I change to Sunday morning.
