Ok, I understand the desire to keep honda RED. But, I have been looking at the competition web sites for this build, first boy are they disorganized (great job Ken), second, I would like to see our bike stand out visually and performace wise. Not that the bike has to be a copy of Ernie's pic, but that look is simple, but so sharp. Most of the other pics I have seen I think the bike looks to busy. Anyway, my 2 cents again.

update: the rims with red center and bare aluminum are a no-go. i've talked with someone close to those rims and they are powder coated and if you know your powder coating it flakes like crazy when done on aluminum. not practical for our purposes. so, all one color it must be.

What about anodizing them and just stripping the anodizing off of the sides?

I am with cliff. I in no way want us to COPY that picture. But that color scheme is something id like to see happen.

Ken, If the 2 tone rims are out of the question, then Personally i think Red excels, if we go with the White MDK color scheme. Black Talon Hubs as well.

asked about that and it's not practical apparantly. i really like that look and believe it's very practical for offroad abuse but we may have to go standard full color...the factory honda silver excels and reb hubs is pretty trick looking and yet subtle.

    what's everyone think?

I like subtle. I really like the two tone rims though......I'm gonna have to figure out how to accomplish it. I need them!

i've taled with some of the best anodizers in the business and this can't be done via anodizing. power coating yes but then you have flake problems. if you do find out someone that can pull this off please let me know.

I have done this with BMX wheels. Take a full black wheel and sand the sidewalls with an orbital sander. Never followed through with a full polishing but don't see why it couldn't be done. Heck you can get bicycle rims already done lick that. I just don't believe that it cannot be done. Maybe they cannot be anodized in two tone but I do believe that they can be made two tone. If Boyd Cottington or Chip Foose wanted them done that way you can bet that they would know the process. Hello, Boyd/Chip. Shoot, the anodizing scratches doesn't it? It doeesn't penetrate completly thru the material. Soooo?
How about painting them with some super duper hard, NASA approved, (maybe not the best group to rely on there but you get my drift) bullet proof, aircraft paint. I used a two part paint on my z28 calipers that is virtually indestructable (but that's not on a dirt bike rim either)
I'm just throwing out some ideas.
Uni-ped, how bout you buds at TCR?

Ken has a pretty good relatioship with TRC I think he has already spoken with him. To be Honest I would'nt care if you used the stock wheel at this point I am so anxious to see a picture of this bike with some CRFsOnly graphics. I know patients this is a long process an dwe need to get a game plan before we throw parts at it. Just excited to see something come of the input. I do like the silver/redas well though.

Agree, If the 2 tone is just not do-able than the red hubs and silver rims would be my second choice if we go with this bike package.

Not my cup of tea (or pint of beer), but here's another pic. This is going for the black and red theme with stock plastics and seat.

    Which ever color combo is chossen - white/ black with red accents or red and black, I like the following in black;

    hand gaurds
carbon fiber pipe gaurd and skid plate
    hubs
    bar risers
    rad gaurds

    - also like the black forks on that all white bike too.

And - someone out there showed a gas cap which was aluminum with red accents which is a must have.

Well, guess the two tone rims is out. I like the black rims with the red hubs then. Still like the white look best. But, am just happy to be a part of this project.
