    advise needed

    by Rachiano » Sat Sep 27, 2008 8:45 am

    Hi,
I haven't been riding for almost two months now since my left colarbone and two ribs broke. I want to go riding again but I am not sure if I can already start. should I do some excersizes before I jump back on my bike. is two months of bone growth strong enough to start riding a dirtbike again? need to visit my doc on 10 october to make an xray to see how it progresses. but don't want to wait that long. please advise what to do. thanks.

I rode on a broken shoulder (didn't tell my doctors) 3 weeks before it was supposed to be fully healed. I didn't do much jumping and wasn't going too fast. If I remember correctly, a collar bone is a very quick recover time (like 3 weeks?) and broken ribs heal quickly also. Go for it, you should be totally healed. Disclaimer: You will not hold me liable when you crash and re-break your bones

If it hasn't healed properly you will be off the bike even longer.
Wait to you talk to the doctor to be sure.
Light weight training makes sense but any pain should be heeded.

Thanks for the advise guys. I still do have some muscle pains. I think I will wait till I see the doctor to be sure it healed good. in the meantime will just go on wrenching on my bike and do some light weight training.

Who says I am not a ortho that all the other orthos think is nuts because he rides.

I am not, but I do know collar bones can be tricky to heal.

Getting back into it too early not only stuffs you up again but makes a mess of the bike when you drop it.

    Hope your back riding soon.

Did you have your collarbone plated or are you letting it heal naturally? I had mine plated and was back racing in 6 weeks. I've also been taking 1800 mg of Calcium and Cod liver oil to help in the healing process and was doing PT 3 times a day to strengthen the muscles back up and got full ROM back. If you can I'd try to start some exercises to stretch the muscle and get your ROM back.
But I'm not a doctor. If you want some good advice post up the x rays and have Dr. Mark look at them on here. He is who I had do my surgery and I couldn't be happier.
