    Dealing with race injurys

    by Tom#91_crf250 » Wed Jan 02, 2008 12:40 pm

i am having some trouble with some old race injurys mainly knee problems.

i have been to a docs then reffered to the nhs for scans etc but they keep sending me home saying theres nothing wrong.

back in march last year i managed to come of big time ovr jump which ended up with the bike on top of me with my knee been jared forwards and stuck. to cut a long story short it swelled up and i double doses of ibrbufen and paracetermole just so i could walk and race the next day.

ever since then i get sharp pains in my right knee but there seems to be no persific patern, like all of a sudden it locks and i cant walk for half an hour or i just get a sharp pain for severl hours, and it hurts when i ride.

i also have managed to do the same to my left knee aswell after go broadside in the air, the paramedics said i had broken my patella but the hospital said i havnt yet i have all the syptoms of one? could this cause a problem if i have and its already set?

is there anything i could try to help me as its realy holding me back as it hurts when riding after 20 minutes especialy when the tracks get rough?

another thing is what training can i do for the comming season to strengthen the muscles and ligaments around aswell as getting fit.

thank you in advance and sorry for the long post

Get ahold of Dr. Mark on here, and he can answer many, many questions dealing with riding injuries. Welcome aboard by the way! You'll love it here!
We have two companies of Marines running rampant all over the northern half of this island, and three Army regiments pinned down in the southwestern corner, doing nothing. What the hell is going on?

You should have posted on this last week when I was in the UK. I would have been happy to look at your knee in exchange for two pints.

Try to convince the NHS doc to order an MRI.

dam, i would of done more than 2 pints. it took my brother over a year to convince the doc that he had a torn cartilidge in his knee after a skiing wreck.

    thanks

Tom#91, good luck trying to get anything out of the NHS. I trained at the Univ. of Manchester School of Physiotherapy. I feel your pain! If your orthopedic clinical assessments are all negative take a rolling pin and roll it up and down on your calf muscle-inside and outside. If you hit a hot spot that makes you kick away reactively then your calf muscle is bracing and overloading the inside of the knee joint leading to pain everytime you use your leg muscles. Try rolling the muscle out (apply pressure on the sore spot and hold for up to 90 seconds-pressure point release) and stretching the crap out of your calf. Also find a good out-patient physio in your area that does the Brian Mulligan technique, it is near magic when done right. Good luck and hope this helps. Cliff
