    Took a hit

    by RedRider713 » Thu Jul 19, 2007 3:26 pm

Riding at Latrobe Speedway yesterday, bike locked up at about 30mph. I went over the bars and killed my ribs, fractured my left clavicle, fractured my pelvis, snapped my fibia in two, and a hairline fracture on my humorous, and trust me, it ain't that humorous.

Went to the lobby this morning and posted my earlier topic, Broken ribs?. Then went back up, got loaded on vicoden, and the docs came in and gave me the bad news. I'm probably never going to be able to ride again. The worst part of it is, I'm 17 now, it's gonna be hell (exscue the language) when I'm 35. Total recooperation time is about 10 months. About 4 of which is going to be spent in rehab learning to walk again.

Well, I'm gonna go, Marissa is going to try to keep you guys updated on my status, because it's really hard to type all this wiht one hand.

Jeez, that's bad, but I don't understand about not being able to ride again. I know you broke a lot, but that all should heal in time. Hang in there and keep us informed.

Best of luck getting better. I had a crash about a year and a half ago. I was in enough pain and i only broke my collarbone and wrist, i can only imagine how much pain you must be in. Best of luck in healing.

At 17 I can't believe you "won't" be able to ride again. Hell, your bones are still soft. You're just barely out of diapers ;) Sure they break, but at your age, you'll heal fine. Granted...you may not be able to be as "spirited" in your future riding, but I'm sure you'll ride again...that'll be all up to you! Take the rehab serious...never give up (no matter how much it hurts,) and you'll be back out there. Working hard through your therapy will drastically cutdown on scar tissue. It's that scar tissue that paralyzes the joints on people in their old age. Keeping things flexible and used is the secret.

Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery!

hi guys, this is marissa, thank you so much for your encouragement. the doctors put two steel plates in his leg because he snapped his fibia, they put his arm in a cast, and put his other arm in a sling with some kind brace that he sleeps in at night to keep his neck from moving and hurting him even more. but really, thank you guys so much for the kind words, he told me that no one on crfsonly.com knows him, but they are all very nice people who will help with almost anything. so thanks guys and girls, i'll try to keep you posted on his status

Thanks for the update, Marissa. He has a lot of healing to do. Make sure he does his rehab completely. He should be as good as new. Keep us informed about his progress. Thoughts and prayers are with you.

Hi guys, it's me now. I do have a lot of rehab to do, but with the encouragement I see here, I don't think it'll be that bad. Thank you guys so much for your kind words, it means a lot to me, my mom, and Marissa. I plan on trying to ride again as soon as rehab is over, but I'm not that sure about it. But thanks so much for the kind words, I really appreciate it.

    you will ride again.
in may of 2004 i shattered my right femur into 9 pieces. with plates and wire they fixed me up. the bad part is about 5 months later the titanium plate broke because my bone was still week and flexing ,metal fatigue.but with a new plate, bone graph and hardcore physical therapy i was back riding in 10 months and tearing it up .i recommend doing the best you can at therapy it might be uncomfortable but don't half rear it. it will pay off in the end.
