    thumb web pain

    by kingofthewoods » Mon May 14, 2007 5:15 pm

I know alot about arm pump. This is no way arm pump. When I ride even for a little I have been getting pain in the web between the thumb and pointer finger, the muscle that hurts when you squeeze it (its a pressure point so duh). I dont hold extremly tight, so I cannot figure out where it is coming from. I know everyones obvious answer is "pressure". I know but I dont really have much pressure on it, I ride with relaxed grip. How to solve it has me purplexed. I think I will get some scott fusion II grips but hope that works... all suggestions welcomed.

yeah they do swell, they also become soft to the touch. im thinking it could be from vibrations up the bars.

Do you wear elbow guards? As much as I need them, I found that the elbow guards did 2 things that I didn't expect.

It increased my arm pump and caused actual not pump related pain in my wrists by the base of my thumb.

As I grew stronger (after a years long break from dirt riding) the exagerated arm pump from my elbow guards is much less but the odd sharp pains in my wrists hasn't changed.

I'm guessing the arm pump comes from the blood flow restriction caused by my cheap azz elbow pads straps and the wierd sharp wirst pain is caused by those same straps putting pressure on the nerves in the same area.

Maybe thats your prob. I ride without elbow pads now but even at this writing I have a big swath of rash on my elbow from a low speed wreck the other day so I don't suggest it.

I have this problem too. But it doesn't happen when I'm riding my dirt bike, only my street. I don't understand it either but it hurts to the point that I have to drop my hand and shake it. I don't hold on tight either.

I do have my dirt bike set up different. I have bar risers on mine but I also stand when I'm riding my dirt. If I did that on my street, I'd be pulled over for stunt riding and get a ticket.

    Thanks for the input^.

well in response to the elbow guards, yes i wear them I like my elbows  , but this can happen while cruising down my backyard trail in only boots and helmet.

I am a rock climber and know all about the forearm strength and pump and i don't believe it has anything to do with this pain ( though i could be wrong). Im stating to conclude that its a pressure point that is pressing because when your on a street bike you must not have to much vibrations so i should throw that out. There has to be some doctor of some sorts on here please help!

there is 2 answers your either deathgripping it from getting a bad habit of either sitting toward the back of the bike or you are leaning too far foward over the bike when standing in attack. i do that often. or number 2, even the king of the woods is gonna suffer a little arthritis. i have some killer arthritis in my hands and lower back, another gift from the motorcyle gods from al the torment i have put my body through

well, the king of the woods is 16 so no hand arthritis yet but does have arthritis already from a wrist break and a dumb doctor ( no matter what the doc says physical therapy is something you do after breaking your wrist.)

Im staring to think your right i do sit back abit because im 6'2 and am way over the bars, mabey ill get some risers and see if its better.
