    2009 CRF250x Gear oil colour

    by arizonabay » Mon Sep 23, 2019 11:51 pm

Morning folks, I changed my gear oil last night and the old oil came out a little silvery.

It seems ok when standing but when stirred, it seems to run very faint silver lines then settle back to a normal dark oily colour.

The judder spring has been removed by a previous owner and everything looks clean in the clutch housing. The oil does not have any particulates in it.

Is this anything to be concerned about? I've never owned/worked on a bike with separate engine and gear oil chambers so am a little clueless.

    Cheers

Welcome to the site !! \:D/

If you are working with the tranny side (clutch side) , then this is normal and is basically clutch plate and hub wear , what you want to be concerned about is when you see Brass or Steel shavings , then you have issues .... but that is one thing nice about separate oil areas (which they stopped doing on the latest generation) is if you get clutch contaminates , it stays out of the engine/piston side so less actual engine wear due to contaminants .... ;)

100% normal, so much so that I would be surprised if there wasn't a tiny bit of silver color.
