    Removing baffles on dual exhaust

    by Ashland23 » Tue Mar 06, 2018 10:12 pm

Hey guys! New to the forums. Just wondering if there’s a way to take out the baffles on the stock dual exhaust on a 2015 CRF450R. Thanks!

Welcome! Not sure I fully understand what you are wanting to do, but we offer these end cap replacements for those wanting to have removable spark arrestors:

Most mufflers should be possible to disassemble (to allow repacking), so you just need to figure out how to do that and still hold the packing in place (using a straight pipe inside instead).

You can't always just rip the guts out because the baffle holds in the packing, and if you remove the packing you end up with a large empty low-pressure chamber which disrupts exhaust flow. It's preferable to weld a straight pipe instead for that reason. (just my understanding, not familiar with Guzzi mufflers at all)

Welcome to the site !! \:D/

I am thinking about the mod you mentioned with the straight pipe , and just guessing here , but , I would think a straight pipe in there , instead of one with the holes , would just bypass and render the packing useless , as the holes are diffusers and what allows the exhaust to "flow" thru the packing , which in turn quiets the exhaust noise dramatically , so I am a bit confused as to why you would want to eliminate the inside baffle/diffuser , unless you have neighbors you just can't stand and want to annoy them with what would basically be a straight pipe :-k

Unless you can explain what benefit swapping out the baffle with a straight tube actually accomplishes , i would say leave it be , because the packing won't be of any value with a straight pipe inside :?

As for replacing the packing , it should be like all the prior models beforehand , and you just drill out the rivets surrounding the endcap , and pull it off , and replace your packing and replace the endcap and instal new rivets ;)
