    age old question i'm sure.....Which oils to use (gear box/Transmission)

    so many people will use run of the mill oils from there dealers and sadly be paying a premium for them, beleave me i have done the same for too many years, but of late been using Exol Oils in my 2 strokes, had a few rebuilds and the barrel and pistons have been spotless, granted not solely down to oil but its a good start.
    main reason for my switch was the price, as all of you will appreciate if riding a lot then regular oil changes mount up, Exol oils are reasonable to say the least compared to main stream brands..

    so can Exol be used in a CRF450? (2013 model in my case) it would appear that there gear box oil is a good comparison to the Honda spec but the Transmission oil i am at a bit of a loss with.

    couple of screen shots attached showing brief descriptions

    * Optima 4T SS 10W-40
    Semi-synthetic four-stroke motorcycle oil

    * Autotrans Dexron III 1 x 5 Litre
    Semi synthetic automatic transmission fluid

    what do we recon?

    The main requirement for the tranny is Wet Clutch compatible and API Service Classification SG or higher , MA Viscosity , JASO T 903 standard , without Molybdenum Additives

    I personally have used , Shell Rotella T Full Synthetic 5w-40 (get it at Wal-Mart and cheap for the gallon) , Amsoil 10-40 , Maxima Pro Plus Full Synthetic 10-40 (current oil)

    Nobody knows of or has even heard of anyone, ever, who has had an oil-related failure in any engine when using and changing recommended grade oils at recommended intervals. We love to fuss about it, though.
