Yea the issue has been present for several years but its more prevalent on the 450's , i believe it has something to do with the kicking procedure and how kicking it a certain way causes the weak case to crack or break , i know the older ones don't seem prone to breaking as often , its like they lightened up the cases or something as part of weight savings and did not gusset it enough to withstand the force from kicking it over , if it had a button , then it would not be a issue , but as the sole means of starting , its definitely a weak area , not sure when Honda is going to give the 250 a button , the 18 450's will have it standard , so i am guessing the 18.5/19 , 250 will have it , as they seem to focus on the 450's for innovation , and then the 250's get some of the stuff the next year
Either way , i feel for you ..... hopefully the dealership will be stand-up about this and do you good , by either getting Honda to cover it , or giving you a huge break on the parts , especially since there are no real hours on the bike , but hopefully the dealer will get Honda to make it right with you
They had the same issue with the 450X , though i have never had a incident with mine , but since i got the Shorai battery generally i use the button
