Welcome to the site and congrats on your new ride!

Cold starting procedure get the kickstarter at TDC. A few quick whacks of the throttle to engage the Accelerator Pump and "prime" the head with some fuel. Then keep your hand off the throttle (most put it on the throttle housing) and give it quick kicks in a row to start it. The reason for taking your hand off the throttle is when kicking your hand will involuntarily twist open the throttle. A cold motor like a rich mixture so you don't want to introduce any air into the carb when start. Depending on the temps you can try this procedure with the choke on.

Hot starting procedure is the same with the exception of using the hot start instead of the chock and do NOT give it three whacks of the throttle. A hot motor likes a lean mixture and this is what the Hot Start does...introduces slightly more air to the mix.

    Good luck!

Welcome aboard. When it comes to oil, you can't go wrong with Honda. Amsoil is a good alternative.
