    New Site Issues

    by JimDirt » Sat Mar 18, 2017 8:13 am

Ken , i have to contact you thru message board because the PM i sent you is still in my Outbox , its also showing 5 new messages , but they are from Feb. along with several in Outbox along with the one i sent you last night , with the exception that i sent the other ones in the outbox , months ago , so i don't know why they are showing up as Outbox , no messages at all in my Sent folder ,including the one to you last night

I am also having to Log In every time i visit , it seems to not be saving to Keep me logged in , , it also wanted me to re-log in when i sent you the PM last night , even though i was logged into the forum (separate log ins ??) ...anyway , not like you don't already have a lot to work on , ....but......i figured you might have thought about relaxing on the weekend ... so i figured i would help you get those thoughts right out of your mind...... ;) (at least the "wink" smiley works) ...

PM's will stay in your "Outbox" until the person they were sent to reads them. I see now that I have a PM so I'll read it and you should then see it in your Sent Box. Without going into a lot of detail, the database schema changed significantly from the old message board we were using to this one. It was challenging getting all of the old data ported to this new database and so things like previous PM's having been read or not read and such are to be expected. Going forward new PM's should be fine.

Yea i have Cookies enabled , I just now checked using Opera , Firefox ,Microsoft Edge , and i am currently using Google Chrome , when i go to Log In there is nothing (no box) to check that says "remember me" or "save" , or "keep me logged in" , in any of the Log Ins for all of the browsers i tried , and if i close the brower after logging in , and then return to the site , it wants me to Log In again , so its not saving for some reason , i don't know if anyone else is having this issue , but i did try it on all the browsers i use and it was consistent on all of them ... , and as mentioned , when i go to my PM's it does ask me to log in again , even though i was already logged in to the forum , ....... , as for the movie thing , that's why i said no biggie and to worry about the things that need done , i just figured it was something that could be looked into later on (suggestion , not a demand), i understand about the importance of other things right now ...no rush ..

And thanks for the info on what the messages do , i was unaware , so it was confusing when i looked and it did not show the message as "sent" but still in the "outbox".............................no pressure , it was just things i noticed

Logging in and then going to private messages or redirecting to another site and/or closing the browser and then coming back to the forum keeps me logged in. so, there's something with your browser settings that is causing this behavior.

On the movie, try pasting a YouTube link in a post and see what happens now. ;-)

I found that if I went out of the site and then back in I had to relog in even when hitting 'remember me button'. I have now bookmarked after logging in and this allows me to go straight in without relogging. This is on the ipad and will try on the desktop.

OK the video part works \:D/ , my Video i posted riding at the track shows up in the post !!! (i did not replace it , i just went to the post and clicked Edit and looked at the preview and it was working) as for the browser settings , i just looked at my settings in Google Chrome and it says to save passwords and i can't find anything that is preventing cookies or preventing sites from keeping me logged in , and the other sites where i have to log in , all allow me to already be logged in , (other forums like a truck forum i visit regularly) and it is the same with 4 different browsers , all of which keep me logged into other sites but none of them keep me logged in here , looks like Ray is having the same issue .... , maybe try and log in using a "new" account instead of you being ADMIN , maybe that is allowing you to stay logged in , but as a "normal" user it might not ....

Clear your cookies for crfsonly.com and test. I have tested both my admin account and a test account. Working for me in both accounts. Also, if you are using bookmarks change them to https:// if they have http:// URL's.

Interesting. At the bottom of the page in the footer is a link to "Delete All Board Cookies". You might want to do that and test some more. However, I'll keep digging into it. If I come up with something I'll post.

Tried that , it worked for a while , but then if i stayed away for a hour or so , it reverts back to wanting me to log in ...again , i don't experience this on any other site .... its confusing since its doing it in 4 different browsers for me , and only here ...

I've been testing a few things and so sessions and cookies have been impacted. Use the delete board cookies button AND verify with your browser all board related cookies are deleted then test some more.

Looks like it is working on ipad and pc for me. I might not have tested it as throughly as some who can spend the day trolling the web,LOL.
I will see how this go when I walk away from the machines.
The views and replies now look sensible ie not the same.

    Ken,
is there a button that just shows what has been posted since last visit or am I just missing it?

The site, It's like a new bike that has been completly worked over and you are still waiting for the shop manual to find where all the new features are. Mind as an old bugger the icon base world is too hard to see or understand. I still autocad with the command bar because the symbols looks like hieroglyphics, maybe those Egyptians were way ahead of their time.
