Welcome to the site
Basically it depends on how you ride , if you ride like Justin Barcia , your motor might last a few weeks , if you ride keeping the revs low and stay off the limiter (along with keeping the oil clean , etc) the motor can last years
For example (don't use this as a benchmark , but more of a "its possible" scenario) , i bought my 02 450R in 2008 , i raced and practiced with it almost every weekend , the weekends i was not at the track , either i was trail riding it , or one of my friends was riding it while i rode my 06 450X , i just swapped the piston for a higher compression one last winter , but the old piston , that had been in there since 2008 minimum , still had the Teflon coating on the skirt , i could have left it in there as it was almost like new after riding almost every weekend for 7 years
My 06 450X is still on ALL original internal parts , with the exception of the cam , which i went to a HotCams Stage 1 for better performance for trail riding , other than that , the engine has almost 4,000 miles of single track and desert riding on it and 10 years on the same parts it came from the factory with , since i ride both bikes frequently (lately i have been riding the R and only rode the X 2 times this year)
Right now i am recovering from a broken wrist/arm , so my riding this year ended mid August
I can safely say if you stay off the rev limiter , keep the oil and air filter clean , and do "regular" maintenance , your engine
can last a long time , every bike/engine is different/your mileage may vary , but its not uncommon for these engines to last several seasons with little more than routine maintenance
Your valves need to be kept away from dirt entering thru the intake tract , getting past the filter , dirt will kill valves and engines in general , and are the main reason for the top end going bad quickly (along with bouncing off the rev limiter) in these motors
Hope that helped some
