It still hurts and has a slight infection where the pins are , i am on antibiotics now so infection should go away , i see the surgeon again on Wednesday (Aug 31st) , this is as straight as i can get my hand or fingers right now , its been 2 weeks (Aug 13th) since the injury and 13 days (Aug 16th/on my birthday) since surgery , its going to be a long road before i can do much of anything , let alone ride or race again

Well Jim that doesn't look like fun.
When looking down from the top is you hand still aligned to the arm? Or is the hand still off to one side. The physio won't be nice but it is the only way you get the movement back (as much as you can anyway), and it is surprising how the more we move, the more we can move. Well that is the case with knees I have found. Still hate stairs but can ride standing, go figure.

My hand is permanently to the left (not pointed but physically offset from my arm) 1 inch , so its like a zig-zag , that he can't fix (at least not right now), as there is no supporting bone left to allow the hand to be in the correct position its supposed to be in , we have not talked about bone grafts , etc , as its too soon , as he needs what is left of the Radius bone to be stabilized before anything else can be contemplated , as the main purpose of what was done , was to get functionality back to my hand period , though i will be asking him about what else could be done , either now or down the road ... time will tell i guess

i see him on Wednesday/tomorrow , so i will see what he has to say about how its coming along , its been 2 weeks , and it still mostly hurts like it did at the time of the wreck , so i know its going to be a long tough road

They did get the bad looking stuff (yellow pus) out of the wound where the pins are , yesterday , so along with the antibiotics , hopefully the infection will pass , as it is all cleaned up and new bandages applied , i am still in a half cast to stabilize the arm/wrist

    G'day Jim,
Something for further down the track (no pun intended), that once the surgery sites are healed is to start using a scar reducing cream or oil. I have used Dermatix in the past. Made in USA so should be able to get. Ortho might suggest something that he knows works for your scarring. The idea being is the scars are less sensitive and flattening the scar improves flexibility as skin stretches a little further.

Of course if you like the gnarly scar look disregard the above.

    Hope the pain abates soon.

Look at the bright side you weren't riding the Space-X rocket.

Well saw the Dr. and the infection is about gone thanks to the antibiotics and the cleaning i got at the clinic , he also removed all the staples , but it will be a while for the pins

He did mention they used cadaver bone for my arm as there was nothing left of mine to salvage

I am working on getting my fingers to move , so far the pinky is at least moving on its own , the other fingers i still have to manually manipulate , and they hurt to do that , but hopefully when i see him next Wednesday , i will have a couple of fingers moving as that is the current goal , to get functionality back in my hand

I will look into the cream , mainly for movement purposes rather than cosmetic , as i am proud of the many battle scars i have , and it looks like i am just adding to the collection , as i never forget the main purpose of all the pain i have gone thru over the years ............chicks dig scars !!!!! ;)

I have never had so much constant pain as i have with this injury , Ken , its been several weeks and its just now slightly tapering off to where i have been able to cut down on the pain killers , it still pretty much feels like it did when i injured it , and i still can't even touch my hand without pain , this is going to be a long recovery.....

    Cadaver bone is usually female.
Do you find yourself to be more emotional and less logical?

    Leardriver,
Don't give Jim any ideas the his wrist is now in someway partly female. We don't want him over using it till it heals more.

Well all i can say is that its rather stiff , so i would think the opposite and its some kind of male bone , and it also seems to swell up more and throb any time i touch it ...soooooooooo , take that for what its worth .....

On a related side note , i banged it on my coffee table Saturday ,and all the progress i had made on bending my fingers , just went bye bye , after the swearing stopped , i looked at my hand , and my hand is really swollen now and my fingers will hardly move at all ...again... , and even then , its with a lot of pain , if i get them to even slightly wiggle , so i took a few steps backwards by just a little bump (this is related to the first part of my reply)

but thanks for trying to cheer me up ..... :?
