Steakcrf77 in ICU after crash. prayers needed

    by socalnathan » Fri Dec 24, 2010 11:25 pm

Steakcrf77 is a avid reader and contributor to this site. I am sad to inform you that he has been involved in a accident. Here are the details that I have so far.

He just replaced the rear brake setup on a xr200 he just bought to play around with. He just went for a put up his street to test it out. As most of us probably do he did not put on his helmet since he was just going down his street. Unfortunately he lost control of the bike and was thrown from it cracking open his skull, breaking his collar bone, extensive road rash and bruised lungs. He wasn't breathing when our friend got to him. They called 911 and a short time before the ambulance arrived he began breathing again. He was rushed to the emergency room where they performed emergency surgery to remove part of his skull to reduce pressure on the brain. He just got out not to long ago and is in a medically induced coma. The doctor said his brain is badly bruised and there is no telling the extent of the damage at this time. They will perform another CT scan in the morning . Hopefully we will have some good news then.

I know many of you know him on this site and some of you know him personally. Please pray for our fellow rider and one of my best friends that he makes a full recovery. I will post news as it comes in. [/b]

Holy crap! That is not good.

He and Allyn were at my shop yesterday at around noon with the XR on the trailer, telling me what they were gonna do with it.

    Our prayers are with him...

He is in the ICU at Henry Mayo hospital. This is such a reminder that we all need to wear our helmets at all times. Even just to ride in the driveway. I want to start working on some kinda of helmet awareness thing. It's not worth all this just to save two seconds and not put on your helmet. His wife is 14 weeks pregnant and really needs him right now. Sorry to be long and drawn out but he is one of my best friends and I am very torn up right now. Thanks to everyone for the prayers and I hope you have a merry Christmas.

He had his CT scan this morning. During the surgery they had to remove part of his temporal lobe. They said his brain is better then expected but there is part of it that is permanently damaged. We wont know what it effects for a while. he has a slight fever and blood pressure that is higher than normal. Pray both of those return to normal. As for right now his pregnant wife is out on disability and obviously he will not be at work for a while so I might need to start a foundation to help them through these tough times. More info to follow. Thanks for the prayers and thoughts.

so sorry to hear this news. we will definitely keep him and his family in our prayers.

and you are right...this is another reminder to us all to always wear a helmet. i'm guilty of running up and down the street without one and this has served me notice. i won't be doing that again.

Man I've been thinking about him all day. Steve is one hell of a nice guy. I talked to him last week on the phone and he was so happy. He was telling me about his wife being pregnant.

I'm sure Steve will be out of work for a bit. We will do what we can to help out. Maybe some of us local guys can help them out by bring meal by the house once he gets out.

    He is in our prayers!!!

Me too...I am so bummed. I was just talking with him and Allyn in front of my shop yesterday. Talking about future plans and stuff. They were starting to restore an old XR 200 and brought it by to show me.

I hope we'll have the opportunity to help.
