    New hand guard mounts...

    by BWalker508D » Sun Jul 15, 2007 6:03 pm

In my never ending quest to find the best and coolest products that either work better, or work just as good while looking cooler, I have found a new method of mounting my hand guards. I have not yet seen these on this forum, or on the crfs only catalog, so I thought you all would like to check them out. The company is Bike Bonz, they are located in Canada, and they make parts for motorcycles and bicycles. Check em out at www.bikebonz.com. I really like this method of mounting hand guards, and the product quality is second to none. Naturally, they are made to work with an array of hand guard styles so they didnt line up good with my Cycras, but I made them work. The only thing I dont like so far is having to bend the snot out of my hand guards, and they happen to line up right where my perch adjuster likes to be. Other than that, I think they look cool and they deffinately do what they are designed to do.

    Nice looking fittings

Little concerned how they will last after a few get offs and trips into the trees

Can the Hand Guard still rotate ? or is it very rigid ?

    Nice find though

There is no flex left at all. They are very rigid. I am trying to figure out how I could make some sort of collar set up to allow bar flex. I know the bars cant really flex when you use a very solid mount like this, but I dont like mounting my had guards back to the bars. Ive seen people crash and have their guards rotate up and hit their fore-arms. To be honest, I have come to the conclusion that until I can start making my own parts I will most likely never be totally satisfied.

I used to be a "make sure everything is as rigid as possible" ... right up to when a good friend broke a forearm ... hand slipped off grip down between bars and handguards ... bit the dust ... if the handguards had rotated all would have been good but due to rigidity of mounting them suckers did not move an inch .... hand guards 1 - forearm 0

I also use plastic only handguards - no ali re-enforcing strip through the middle for the same reason ...I use the Polisport ones

Now I hear you say they are not as strong yada yada etc etc ...

Well I ride ( race occcassionally <- sp ? ) Enduros, Pony Expresses etc plus set up many events ( Enduro's mainly ) and let me tell you I bounce off many trees etc - you know the scenario ... you are rattling along on a piece of nice single track and you come apon a nice bunch of sodding trees/saplings diabollically placed so they are just a smidgenly less than handlebar width apart ... so being Mr Gung Ho ( or 2 stupid 2 slow down ) I bounce through this little dilema mainly using my Hand Guards ....and apart from a bit of rotation and discoloration of the plastic all is good ...

BTW - looking at all your bikes they are so clean and pristine !! - mine is washed and much loved but looks krap compared to your beauties ... I guess bush bashing does take its toll ..
