    Extreme Home Makeover

    by Motomom » Tue May 08, 2007 7:45 pm

I'm just about ready to bust at the seems! This family I know (which are good friends) have been living in a tent 32X16 Army tent I found on Craig's list for over a year now. This is a family of 5 with the youngest boy 6 years old.

Well, last year Jan a tree went through their roof and knocked it off it's foundation. The company that their insurance company called to do a temp repair didn't do a good job and allowed water to fill up in the walls. It's amazing how much water that wall held. There was mold in the ceiling (the real bad kind). Because the roof wasn't repaired properly the mold spread throughout the house and contaminated everything. Total loss of everything. Insurance company said it wasn't their fault, sent them a check for $20,000 and said they were square. This was suppose to include the house and all the contents.

They were told by a lawyer it may take years to get anything done with the insurance company. They couldn't afford to build a new house or a mobile home. The prices were out of their reach. They have a farm and couldn't leave the animals. So they've been living the only way they could - in a tent.

Well, a friend put together a DVD and everybody wrote letters to extreme home makeover. Finally got the word! They are on the list to get a new house! I cried. I just wanted to spread the word. I'm so happy, I want to help build it. So I might be on TV! I'm just hoping they don't do it one of the two weeks I'm going to be gone.

I didn't know where else to put this and I'm sorry for any miss spelled words, omitted words. I'm typing fast and my brain is a lot faster than my fingers.

    The power of pray works.

I know, I saw that Ty got nailed for a DWI. Sad. Well, I know he won't be up here on the 4th of June, he has to be in court that day.

This is really going to be interesting because they build these homes in one week. They will be taking out a few (almost 40 trees) before they even start this. This will truly be a 24/7. HAHAHA I think I'll be able to last about 10 at the most per day.

It's kinda funny with little Mikey. He's trying to decide what to have his room done up like. Every time someone suggests something, he'll say no someone else did that already.

They watch the show every time it comes on TV. I just hope Mikey isn't sick, he's been getting sick so easy sense they've been living in the tent.

I'm going to try and post a "CRF's ONLY" sign somewhere on the house. Might see it. :D Or I could where a t-shirt with it too.

Hey Motomom, That's great news - Good Luck.

I can tell you from experience that it is incredible to be part of something like that. I worked on the Extreme Makeover home that was built for Kristina Ripatti, the LAPD officer shot and paralized not too long ago.

The human outpouring was amazing. ;)

    God Bless
