    Need advice on Riding Boots.

    by sbronco68 » Tue May 01, 2007 12:51 pm

Hey guys I really need some advice. I'm new to dirt bikes(just bought a 05 450R) been ridding quads as a kid and am in the market for a new pair of boots. I just broke my hand the other day from a small crash and now have pins in my hand and cant ride for a month. So I want to up grade my gear and try not to get hurt again. So what boot are the best for protection? I like the Tech 10's but is it all hype? Are they really any better? Their are a couple place on Ebay selling them for $350 so at that price I'm considering them. Please let me know what you guys think are the safest boots.
    Thanks
    Shawn

The "safest" boot is a matter of opinion. Once you get into the $250+ range, safety becomes even imo. Once your there, you start to pay for th ebells and whistles. I don't see a need for the Tech 10's. If you like Alpinestars, then Tech 8's will be more than satisfactory. Tech 6's are a very good boot as well. I'm riding with Sidi right now because of the comfort factor. They have a hinged ankle pivot system that I like and find more comfortable.

Basically, don't buy the cheap boots($100-150) and you should be fine. Just find what's comfortable and wear them every time you ride.

LOL what's wrong with 100.00 boots? I have a 400.00 helmet and 100.00 boots. I've ate it a few times trying to do wheely's and let me tell you my boots were just fine.

IMO, unless you're racing, you don't need those 400.00 boots. I've tried alot of boots on and i went with what i felt to be the most comfortable. Just get the full boots not the low cut and make sure you were em every time.

Dido. Don’t buy cheep boots. I tried on Tech8s and 10s. I got the Tech10s because they are slimmer, less bulky. I almost went with the Tech8s because they are lighter.

And that was with Tech 8's. Imagine the damage done with the cheapies! I wasn't recomending the $400 boots. Here's the sales pitch:

How often do people use their helmet? Only in a crash right or the oddly low lying tree branch? How often do you use your boots? Every time you ride, 100 times a ride. Not knocking a good helmet, but (imo) buying the cheapest boots you can buy is a mistake. Especially on a bike that inspires confidence in even the most amateur riders. Don't go crazy $$ on any of the gear, any of the midrange priced equipment is good.

    My $0.02...

Thanks for all the advice guys. I agree with everyone that at the $250 mark your safe but also boots are the critical piece of motorcycle gear so I think I will go for the Tech 10 since they are only $100 more.

On a side note can someone please tell me how to post a picture in a post.

    Thanks again guys..

I think you are making the right choice. My new pair of $100 boots (imo) created a wreck worth 50k in medical bills. After I healed enough to ride again I discovered the cheep boots were sliding all over the pegs, almost wrecked twice. All that with in 5 hours of riding time.

I don’t care if Tech 10s cost $500. They stay where you put them.

Thanks again guys, I got the approval from the girlfriend to buy "$400 shoes" as she hates having this pin sticking out of my hand and dose not want me getting more pins.

I went ahead and ordered a pair on 2007 Tech 10's for $359 shipped.
