    Is this normal?

    by zinibob » Sun Apr 22, 2007 4:25 pm

I have an '04 CRF 450R that is in the shop having the crank replaced. I bought the bike new in '04, raced 6 Hare-n-Hounds, and have countless playriding miles on it... approximately 5,000 miles total. I have put in four pistons and rings, stainless steel valves, and have maintained the oil and air cleaner religiously. I am now looking to sell my 450R, and am looking for a lower maintenance bike. Is this normal breakdown and maintenance for this bike? Will I get more miles out of a 450X without major problems? Has anyone heard of any major changes to the '08??

5k is a lot of miles on a very high tech bike, especially if your racing also.

5k how many hours is that? You have an hour meter to track you maintenance service intervals, you checking your valves extra often?

Did your mechanic say the cause of the failure because a good one can tell you why it failed usually, sand, oil, bearing, etc...

You might get a few more out of an x but most likely not.

If you want a low maint. bike you should get a XR400 or something - nice bikes but no 450 IMO

Maint. is just part of riding and yeah the costs add up, especially if you are not able to service it yourself.

The best suggestion - Make sure you have a manual!
