I was thinking about buying these, my buddy has a yz 250f and he had to cut down his clutch lever to fit. I have an 03' crf 450r and don't feel like hacking away at it. any input would be nice

If you get the Cycra Probends you will not need to cut anything.

I have them on my '03 R. The only thing I did was notch where the brake line fed so it wouldnt rub on the guard. Its got stock levers and I didnt have to shorten anything.

I have the Rally guards and did not have to cut anything. I did have to move the mount for the clutch slightly narrower to make it fit, but no big deal. I have Pro taper handlebars.

I have the stock Renthals and Rally Pro's. They are awesome. I have banged them off of lots of trees and rocks and they haven't been phased yet. Don't get the red ones though. They are pink. I like the black ones.

I think I already bought those. I had em on the bike for one ride when 3-4 of my riding buddies pointed it out to me. I bought black ones and put the pink ones on my wifes bike

I just orderd these with the "Low Profile Guards" for my 05 450R. I have read alot of positive feedbacks about these. I bought the low profile guards cause I think that they look a little bit better. Anyway good luck on your desision.

Whats everyone's thoughts on the handguards with the aliminium bit through them ?

In the context of you hit something - log/rock/big hole - bike stops , you don't - over the bars you go and your arms/hands slip off bars downwards trapped between bars and handguards ...

My thoughts are at least with the plastic only there should be enough give/flex to allow aforesaid body parts to slip out and prevent the big snappo of arm bones. The ones with aliminium bit through them may not allow your hand/arm to "escape" due to rigidity ( <- is that a word ? )

Have spoken to people who have had it happen and they swear by the plastic only jobbies which is what I am running.

    Topgun,

I have never thought of it. With the clutch and brake levers in there, I just don't see my hand even being able to get into there. You have friends who have done that? OUCH!

Because I am taller, my guards are angled down a little to be parallel to where I like the clutch and brake levers, so maybe that is why I can't really even see how I could get my hand through there.

I have broke many a plastic set and only one of the Moose Bark Busters after running the same set for 5+ years on two different bikes. I much prefer the aluminum bark busters over the plastic Acerbis type. From my perspective the plastic ones are great for roost and brush protection ... go with bark busters for tree and rock protection. Not a big fan of the Acerbis type plastic with aluminum either ... have had them bend on my son's bike .. twice ... never with the Mosse aka Enduro Engineering bark busters.

If you never throw it away, plastic ones are fine ..

I have always cut my levers down anyway as I like them shorter for two finger pull ... personal preference.
