Its time for me to get a new rear sprocket and I was wondering what to go with aluminum or steel. My concern was that an aluminum sprocket would not last as long as a steel sprocket. Opinions please

CRFsOnly member 124 turned me on to SunStar products (steel.) I went with the steel front, and steel Z-sprocket for rear (stock gearing.) I added a DIDVT gold chain with it and love the combo.
I noticed that you just referred to your rear sprocket. It is recommended to replace all three components (front sprocket, rear sprocket, and chain) at the same time. Old and new drive components mixed, tend to result in everything wearing faster. Just something to keep in mind...

Nedirtbkr is correct about replacing everything as a set. You'll get maximum longevity that way.
Steel will last longer that aluminum. There are products that combine the 2 materials, but are extra expensive.

Unless you are a go-fast racer type, you will probably not notice the small amount of unsprung weight that the steel sprockets will bring, but you will notice the longevity!

The stock rear is a sunstar and I am happy with the way it has lasted. When the time comes I'll be running them again.

Yea I know i only mentioned the rear sprocket. I am replacing all three components but I have already decided on an RK gold chain (BBR) and a Sunstar countershaft sprocket. Now I think i'm going to get the Sunstar sprocket for the rear also.
