    Lighting requirements in AZ?

    by DiagTech » Sat Mar 03, 2007 2:07 pm

I want to register my bike for the street in Arizona.

Does anyone know if turn signals are required?

I can get a minimalist kit for about $160 to my door and a complete dual sport kit runs arond $400, yeah, I'm a cheap skate. I'm only planning on using it to work and home, well, the long way to work and the long way home. I only live a mile and a half from work and if I leave a little early, well...........

In Arizona it's easy, motor vehicles will give you the plate BUT if you get stopped by the police its YOUR responsibility to have your bike right. You need: headlight, taillight/brake light, horn and 1 mirror. Insurance is needed if you hit the street.

Thanks, that's about what I thought. The kit I found doesn't include the mirror, but I knew I'd be needing it. I've had it insured since the day after I brought it home, including the street liabilty stuff.

By the way, us Cali guys think you guys suck...

(Not really, we're just jealous that we can't plate our bikes)

I think I saw pictures of a plated X in California somewhere. I guess it's not who you know, but who you're willing to do.

I'll still be coming to California for the occasional ride. Since it'll be an out of state tag, I'd be curious to know if I'd be allowed to ride from Victorville to SlashX/Johnson Valley or El Mirage.

Some guys were able to get them plated, however the DMV is systematically revoking all the plated CRF's.

The manufacturers provide the VIN numbers to the DMV of all bikes that meet California emissions. If the numbers don't match, then the plate gets revoked. It's only a matter of time.

If the bike is plated in another state, I believe you are OK to drive in California. They have reciprocal agreements recognizing the other states laws. You should be fine.

Here's a pic. I was only going to install a minimalist kit. The guy I bought my kit from at Caifornia Dual Sport, "screwed up". These were his words when I called to let him know the brake switches didn't come in the kit. He then tells me he'll send turn signals with the switches. He sent the more expensive LED t/s lamps and electronic flasher. I did need to modify his harness because is wasn't built for a complete kit, but I do that for a living anyway so it was a piece of cake. It's not entirely done, I forgot to order a mirror, oops. And since CRF's Only only free ships with orders of $150 or more, so I picked up a couple other goodies, too.

Also notice the 2 year tag. Makes you hate us even more, huh?
