    rebuild engine

    by woodsman » Fri Feb 23, 2007 9:33 am

After 4 hard years of riding jumping and generally abusing my poor 2003 xr100r what all needs replacement? Clutch plates? camshaft? valves? what all wears out and how can I tell if these things are worn out? All suggestions welcome!

    Thanks ahead of time! :P

You need to do a compression test and compare that to what a shop manual says it should be. A leak down test on top of that will tell you everything you need to know about the health of your engine.
A good shop will do both of these things to a simple engine like the XR pretty reasonably if you don't want to tackle it yourself, otherwise get a Clymer manual and go at it.
The clutch either works or it doesnt,if it's not slipping don't sweat it. Regardless , that shop manual will tell you all about how to inspect it also. Doug

i got a little neighbor who rides the hell of his xr100 i think its an 02 and the only thing that was worn out on it was the clutch plates and his forks felt a little soft compared to another xr 100 that had not been torchured, so a quick fork oil chang and it was back as good as new, and for the engine i have stayed on him for the last 5 years about changing the oil and cleaning the filter so nothing is really worn in there. but just curiously why do u ask if something needs to be replaced? is it hard to start? does it smoke? clutch not engage/disengage properly?

No noticeable problems but the clutch feels a little worn. And the plastic fender on back was broken when I tried a backflip(no joke) And I am looking for an exuse to spend money on it

If it's not broke, don't fix it. That thing will chug along forever with not much love.

If you need to spend some money upgrade it to CRF150R!

    nope

    by woodsman » Fri Feb 23, 2007 5:31 pm

not quite, I landed fine with the front a little in the air but the gave it to much gas and went backwards again.
(Maybe I was subconsciously trying to copy Travis's double) Anyway, the back fender ate the ground and snapped under the seat and obviously I got thrown  .
