how to put on a spark arrestor?

i want to place a spark arrestor on my crf250r, but
i need a rivet gun and drill. i have the drill. i heard
the drill is used to take the rivets out. is this true, because
looking at the stock pipe there doesn't seem to be a place
where a bit can hold onto something.
anyway if someone can tell me exactly how to do it
or send a link that would be great!

Drill out the rivets on the end cap then you have to carefully pry the end cap loose. The end cap is glued on and is difficult to remove. Good luck. The screw or rivet your spark arrester on.

The last sentence should read THEN screw or rivet the spark arrester on.

the stock pipe has the rivets on the outsidegoing
around it, but the endcap i got at probillet has no
holes for rivets to go into the side. the only holes
i see is where the red end that holds the screen
and attaches to the metal base are.
the directions say you need a hacksaw to take off extra
pipe, but the endcap i have has the red tip on it, not the
little overhang of pipe that the crfx has on it stock.
my directions are for an older endcap like the above
model.
anyway not sure if i'm describing this right but i'm
not sure how this thing stays in place and if i
need a saw.

here's a link to our product review of the DRD end cap. it shows the install which would be the same for the Pro Moto Billet end cap we offer.

thanks for the link.
i'm confused about the last couple steps where you
put the end cap on. it says using a drill to install the
new end cap. i thought the rivet gun was used for this.
the other thing is my end cap doesn't have that little
hanging pipe on the end.
does the rivet gun punch the rivet through the metal?
is that why there are no holes on the sides of my end
cap?
i know these are basic questions, but i'm not very
mechanical.
thanks all for the assistance.
this is a great forum!

Here is what I did.

First make sure you have read everything you can find on this site about the install.

Then make sure you have all of the tools for the install.

TAKE YOUR TIME give yourself some space to work in and go for it. It is not too tough to do and it should become clear after you read all of the posts here. It will all become obvious as you go through the process.....I hope.

Once I had the stock endcap off (use heat from a hairdryer if it is sticking) and cut the portion of the pipe that was sticking out off here is what I did.

Follow me here.

Carefully put the new cap in place (make sure it is not upside down)

There will be holes from the old rivets. Mark with a permanent marker through the holes onto the undrilled metal of the endcap you just inserted.

Pull the new endcap off (***See note below) and drill the hole the specified size at the points you just marked.

Put the cap back on lining up the newly drilled holes

Rivet in place.

***If you have a hard time getting the new endcap off again you can drill through the existing holes in the exhaust can and into the new endcap.

I think the instructions do a good job of explaining this from what I remember.

Use the search here and you will find several posts about the install.

there are no holes for the rivets so you have to drill them first. once drilled you'll be able to use the rivets and rivet gun.
