    by ocliff4 » Mon Jan 01, 2007 11:00 am

I HAVE A 2006 450X,AND THE CHAIN SLAP AT THE COUNTER SHAFT SPROCKET IS DRIVING ME NUTS!!!,
I CAN REDUCE THIS BY OVERADJUSTING THE CHAIN
BUT I RUN THE RISK OF BREAKING THE CHAIN OR
DAMAGING THE SPROCKETS.DO I HAVE TO SPEND BIG $$$$$$ ON A CHAIN GUIDE AND WILL THAT FIX THIS
PROBLEM????PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY
    TIPS!!!!!

    Chain slap

My understanding is that the problem isn't the slap itself, but the way the swingarm magnifies the sound. Replacing the chain guide with a TM Designworks guide helps , because it's attached with double sided foam tape, which insulates it from the swingarm. I just loosened up the stock one and layed down a big layer of silicone caulk, I let it dry for a while then reattached the guide. Beware 100% silicone is a you know what too clean up, get clear or grey so it's not so obvious.

Hhhmmm, guess I shouldn't believe everything I read. I do believe my silicone solution helped, but then again, I've also been trying not to lug it so much.
