Hey Doug, I am the lucky one! Check her out doing the Mods herself on the 250x forum Titled she took it all off X rated!

First thing she did was rejet and smog block off what a different bike than it was!

    Yeah I'm proud!!!

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that has experienced good reliable service out of the 450 engine, and to top it off, I added up all my reciepts and maintenance bills for two years then broke it down to the average cost for maintenance and repairs for each month of service. Then I found my stash of two stroke reciepts from several years ago, I carefully sorted two years worth of those and averaged them as well. The conclusion I came to is that so far the four stroke is actually cheaper to run on average than my two stroke was!! four stroke= $88.76 avg. per month. two stroke= $97.13 avg per month.

My recipts included everything from routine maintenance, tires, fuel, broken parts, oils, lubes, filters, everything you can think of. I think this was a pretty fair comparison since I really haven't changed a lot in respect to how many hours I may put on a bike in a month, or the level of abuse I dish out to the bike. It opened my eyes, and when I had the idea to average it, I truly expected the two stroke to be the cheaper of the two.

From all that I've read from "Sheeple" I was beginning to believe my bike was an anomally amongst what Honda puts into production, I was beginning to think that I somehow must have came across one that was manufactured next in line after the factory calibrated all thier machines, and I somehow got a better, mor precise manufactured bike than the majority of owners. Glad to see I'm not alone in finding the Honda to be a reliable machine that does not go "Boom" as easilly as non-honda owners would like you to believe.

My R ate the left intake after 2 and a half years. (Went 0) I babied the bike. However my son rode it like he stole it. Constantly bouncing the rev limiter after repeated times of me protesting. I religiously kept the bike maintained...Cleaning the air filter and changing the oil. Ive since put in a full KW valve train and the bike has been going strong since. With that being said..Neither of my X's have showed a slight hint of the same issue. I think a couple factors caused it. Bouncing the rev limiter and overheating it several times were the big ones. Neither of which happens to my X's.

I believe Honda gets sloppy with setting the clearances during assembly.

I'll 2nd that! I was told by the Mechanic at Beach Yamaha he owns a CRF 450R he said you can adjust the valves right out of the box.

I own a 04 CRF 450R I rode a tanks worth of gas to break it in.Changed the oil and filter.Rode and raced the bike hard.I've adjusted the valves once in 05 then again in 07.Same top end.I change my oil every other ride and the filter every three rides.
