    COLD blooded Raptor 80

    by dobent4@yahoo.com » Thu Aug 18, 2005 8:58 am

    Well,
I'll start it off ! My daughter has a Rator 80 , she tags along now and we have a great time bonding.
Soon she'll be given 2 wheeled instruction.
Any how, the little booger runs good, but takes FOREVER to warm up.
I'm unfamiliar with the tiny carb. Anyone with experience with one ? Let me know what you think.
    Thanks, Doug

Raptor 80, ypu it quite the little machine. i don't know enough to tell you anything important about the carb, but i can tell you one thing, if you will keep your girl riding on quads she will like to ride more often it's a whole new sweet world on a fourwheeler especialy for a yound one! good luck with your mini raptor, get her a blaster or somthing

my friends little brother has one and he sunk it in a puddle and i had clean the water out of the carb, they are very simple to work on, but it is normal for them to take for ever to warm up.

Sorry 04crf250, I missed your post. I fixed it to dramaticaly better for very little money.
The big fix is put in a 12.5 pilot, I got it out of my wifes TTR125 , which needed a 17.5. Of course the plastic plate covering the air filter was removed, and the throttle adjusted to allow (throat clearing, cough)wide open .
Next I exposed the fuel screw, which hides behing a tiny rubber plug on the left side of the carb. This was opened a quarter turn. Next I dropped the needle one space down. It now warms up from completely cold in 1-1 1/2 minutes, enough that you can take of the choke and ride away. It does have a noticeable for a little tiddler power increase, enough to ellicit a "wow" out of the little girl ! Doug

So I totally disagree with MotoKid54.

We both ride fully tricked out Raptor 660's and if you don't know how to ride 4-wheels, these things will put you in the hospital.

Personally, I will always prefer to ride my bike over my ATV, but learning to ride anything well is the key, 2 or 4 wheels.

I completely agree. I'l get my daughter to try 2 wheels, too.
A little quad though can do a lot for a begineer, teaching them basics for one about shifting.
And hey, a Raptor 660 is a LOT of machine, and there's no doubt in my mind that guys who can handle those babies can ride anything ! Sounds like you've got some righteous machinery in the garage, bud ! Doug

    Doug,

We too have a Raptor 80 in the garage for our grandkids. It probably gets more hours than anything else we own. It's a great ride for the little ones to start on. We tried them on a CRF 50 first, but they just didn't have size and strength for a dirt bike, but they all have done well, and more importantly, had fun, on the Raptor 80.

If you find any good hop up WEB sites, etc., let us know. The older kids are wanting more power!
