Honda HP4 10W-40. They make the bike, They source the oil.
They can get any oil they want, I think they would get an oil that will make their products work well.
Unless of course you are into conspiracy theories.

What about Rotella? I have a mechanic that says it's the best.

Some guys on here use the Rotella T 15W-40.
I don't personally, because the savings ($3 quart ) isn't worth it to me.

I run Rotella full synthetic (blue bottle) in both sides. It run so much cleaner than mineral based. Any 10W40 will work. Stay away from any oil labled as energy conserving on the clutch side. This is most all 10W30 oils. I run 750cc in the clutch and 700-750cc on the engine side.

I have run Amsoil 10w40 synthetic motorcycle oil in all my CRF's for 4 years with excellent results. The local Honda shop even recommends using it over the OEM Honda oil. It is also used by the Factory Connection Honda team. Use good oil. The bike holds less than a quart and using a lower quality oil doesn't make sense to me.

Rotella, blue bottle 5w-40. I believe Shell has quit making the 15w-40. Check their website for info.
Good stuff.

I run Amsoil 10w 40 in the motor and redline shockproof light weight gear oil in the tranny. Ask any mechanic what he thinks of Redline shockproof and watch the look on his face. This look says it all. Mechanics HATE it! Why? It coats all of the gears with a layer that is really tough to get off. The stuff is amazing!
