I was recently riding my 2014 crf250r and a branch ripped the connectors out of my killswitch connector. The bike was riding fine and just all of a sudden stopped. When I looked down i realized the wires were all touching each other. I rewired the kill switch and now the bike will not start. Iv disconnected the kill switch as well just to rule it out and still nothing.

Does the MIL light blink/flash at all ?? , if not I am suspecting that you shorted the switch out ( it has a circuit board) and it is toast and will need to be replaced ..... I do not think you would have damaged the ECU , but it is possible .....

You need to test the kill switch to make sure it is not shorted , as I am not certain it needs to be connected for the bike to run



I don't have the Service Manual for that bike , but I did find what I posted the picture from , on YouTube , it is the Factory Service Manual , you can pause the video , like I did on each section , to read how to do each test of the electrical system , you will need to play the video in 1080p to see it clearly enough , at least I do with my crappy connection .. Hope that helps

I actually replaced it with a new switch just to try and rule that out and it still does not run. Ill start trying to trouble shoot it though to see if I find anything out . Thanks for the info

OK ... You did not mention you replaced it .... with that said ....You need to start troubleshooting the ECU ..... You also did not mention if the MAP switch is flashing or giving any blink codes ... . go thru that video I posted in my last reply , towards the end of the video around the 10 minute mark is where the electrical troubleshooting and tests are .... , just pause it on each section so you can read the settings ....

Sorry about that but no it hasnt flashed at all. But I actually just downloaded the manual so hopefully that will make it a little easier. I went through a few things today and its not getting any spark. I changed the spark plug out and had no change. So I guess now ill start going one by one of the other 10 things it can be. ‍♂️ I was thinking of just picking up a used ecm but man thats an expensive purchase for that not to be the issue.

Yea , I looked at a few on EBay for a used ECM to do a Tokyo Mods Map for my 20 450R and yea , they are a bit pricey even used .... and yea , unfortunately , with these new bikes , its all about testing , the issue is , the kill switch goes thru a lot of things like the Injector and such , so there is no telling what fried and what that item prevents something else from doing , I am beginning to think it is the ECM ...

You would think they would have a few different fuses inline somewhere just incase things like this happens but nope. But i greatly appreciate all the info you gave me trying to fix it, hopefully I can get this thing going again soon

And yes I agree , they need more links in the system to isolate issues so it does not take out everything in line .... , it also would make for easier diagnostics , at least my 2020 450R has a main fuse (1 fuse for the whole bike) , at least it is a step in the right direction ..

Well replaced the ecm with a new one and it still isnt getting any spark.... tested the spark plug on another bike and it worked on that one. Guess its time to test the stator and every other part on this thing ‍♂️

Unfortunately , electrical gremlins are usually not what you think they would be , but yea , at this point , you know what it is not , so the only option is to trace each part of the system and make sure it passes all tests .......Stator ... Coil .... Spark Plug Boot ..... EFI system , as the injector/fuel system could stop spark , and re-inspect the kill switch , MAP switch , etc. , a Injector system malfunction can cause the bike not to have spark , CPK 1 and 2 can cause no spark ... so leave no connection plug or part of the electrical system unchecked no matter how insignificant you might think it is to the issue ... if you are getting the Factory Honda Service Manual , then check page 172 , that is where the PGM-FI troubleshooting is , as the fuel system does partially control spark , and I am starting to think it may be involved ...
