    2004 CRF250R Engine cases

    by wog200 » Sun Aug 30, 2020 7:29 pm

    Hi all!!

Getting back in dirtbikes with my son and purchased a used 2004 CRF250R for him. During tear down and inspection, found that a previous owner (not who I bought it from) had shoved an oversized drain plug in the right side engine case that had split it and destroyed the threads. Having a hard time finding another right side case. Found that the replacement is obsolete from Honda. Curious what others have done in this situation, I can't be the first to run into this. I have seen where I may be able to use 05-07 cases, not sure. Thanks in advance!!

Don't you hate it when you have to fix other peoples screw ups...

I am surprised you are having that much trouble finding a case. Ebay should be full of donor parts. Maybe a complete damaged lower end that has good cases? Bike Bandit, here on CRF's I would thing may have cases still available.

One other option is a good TIG weld can fix that. It's cast dirty aluminum but a good welder can pretty easily fix that.

no luck on bike bandit. I've been surfing ebay, not too much luck. I'm going to yank out the engine and see if one of the local shops can do something with it. Thanks

Take it to a good welding shop. They can TIG it.

Just thought of something that would be worth a try.
Contact Ken the owner of the site. He does tons of work on these bikes and has a full machine shop. He may have a donor case laying round. Worth a shot.
    Good luck.

Good evening. Sorry to revive an older post, I'm new to being back on here and came across this post. I'm currently rebuilding a 2007 CRF 250r and was looking at place that does Cerakoting for bike parts. They also do engine case repairs if you are still looking for a fix. A place called Trick Engineering. http://trickeng.com
