    2020 crf250 2nd ride

    by Hammer » Mon Oct 28, 2019 4:56 pm

Got my second ride in this weekend. First I'm a average rider and the suspension feels super stiff. I took compression to 20 clicks out front and rear.

We had some serious braking bumps by the end of the day. With the suspension so stiff , it was hard to hold on. Now I attribute some of this to being out of shape and my weak shoulder. But I've never experienced this before.

I left rebound settings the same, but next time I'm going all the way out on the settings to see how it feels.

Frame seems ridged but it could be related to suspension. I may have to get the titanium engine mounts. We'll see after more riding.

The throttle response is unreal to me, almost got into trouble in the breaking bumps , from not being able to hold on.

The power is awesome, but I do notice that it's a rever . A couple times I shifted to soon in the deep stuff and I lost momentum. Definitely going to get a exhaust, it should help the low end.

It handles awesome , it can turn inside of what I thought it could do , which was surprising. But I am coming off a 15 year old bike. On fast sweepers I experienced some drift to the outside and in super tight turns I had problems turning, but this is definitely me being super rusty.

Everything else is topical honda. Rider compartment is perfect, controls also. Now on to electric start , can you see me smiling. One thing I learned is it will start in gear. No more rocking or using your hands to find neutral, or kicking for hours.

That's all I have for now. Does anyone else have this bike, I would like hear what your impression is of the bike.

Glad you had a blast !! ...... On the stiffness , try removing the rear gas tank mount bolt , it is supposed to give the frame some flex which might help with the stiffness , it was supposedly a work around on the 17/18/19 , so I would assume it would be the same for the 20 ..... The engine mounts are supposed to be a help as well (I think they mimic the R/X mounts) ....

As for the cornering , try going OUT on the REAR Rebound (softer) This might help keep the front to hold a line better (rear affects the front) , or maybe even adding a click or 2 , to the rear Compression , this way it will not allow the rear to unbalance the bike in the corner ... and will hep take some of the twitchiness out of the front , so it's not so sensitive ....

Keep riding , your shoulder will get stronger the more you use it , maybe think about some wrist braces , they may help take some of the load of your shoulders by allowing your arms to absorb more shock , and relax your grip ... I know I can't ride without them as I can't hold on without them ... don't crank down the throttle side brace if you get some , it will give you arm pump , snug is sufficient , on my bad wrist I have the brace cranked down tight , it absorbs everything and all I need to do with it is hold on and use the clutch so I do not get arm pump on it... just the throttle side .....

Also grips may make a difference as far as taking a beating on your shoulders , I use ODI Rogue grips , they are heavily padded and make all the difference in the world .... I had a set of half waffle and lasted 1 ride before my wrists and arms/shoulders were killing me (this is on a track that is nothing but chop and whoops and chatter , not one place on the track is smooth and its 3 minute lap times in 3rd/4th gear on a 450 , so the beating never seems to end) .... , I switched to the Rogue and noticed immediately that my wrists and arms/shoulders felt much better .... just with a grip change ... and they bolt on , and the throttle grip comes already on the tube , so they are easy to remove/install , and no glue or Safety Wire to mess with ...........

Keep the reports (and any issues) coming in .......

Thanks Jim all good ideas. I'll work on them one at a time. Ill save the braces for last since they're probably expensive.

Hard to believe one little bolt can do all that. First I'm working on rebound then try the bolt.

Are those grips fatter than regular grips. I like small diameter grips I have lil hands

I'm pretty sure most of my problems are me , but you've given me some opinions to try.

Oh lastly, like a dummy I ran vp 4.4 . Won't do that for a while.
