On the Tensioner there is a screw , remove that , and get a small thin flat screwdriver that will fit in the opening , you will feel it lock into a notch , turn it slightly and see if there is spring tension on it , if it returns on its own , then the tensioner "should" be good , if it does not the tensioner is bad and needs replaced .... personally I prefer OEM , as opposed to the aftermarket "Manual" ones
If the tensioner springs back then start the bike and slightly turn the screw in either direction with the engine idling , it should go louder and quieter , if it goes quieter and then you release it and it gets louder again then most likely the chain is stretched and needs replaced .... That is about the simplest test
