hey guys
got an unusual noise coming from my 2008 CRF250R engine. have no idea what it could be and it doesn't effect it at all.
anyone know what it might be?

Did you just buy it or have had it for a while ?? , if you have had it for a while , i am guessing the noise just started ??

It could be timing chain , but its hard to tell , if its the quick ticking that increases with RPM , then that is what i would say it is , the timing chain , other than that the rest of what i think i am hearing sounds "normal"

i only just bought it about a week ago but it was from a family friend that we go riding with and the noise has always been there while they've had it too. but the sound i'm talking about is a bit like a noisy fan

oh and do you think you could link me with something to adjust the timing chain if possible, like a tutorial or something.

The timing chain Tensioner is "self adjusting" , which means if the chain is noisy then it most likely needs replacement , not sure on how the original owner did maintenance , but if it had a Piston replaced , then the Timing Chain should have been replaced at that time

Since you know the owner , it will be easy for you to get that info , and if the chain has not been changed (especially if it has not been done since new) , then it definitely needs to be done , a lot of people go to a Manual chain tensioner for the timing chain , i personally prefer the stock self adjusting one , i have not had one fail , but they do fail occasionally , the chain , just stretches over time , and is considered a "wear" item , and is usually replaced with each Piston change
