Where did the threads go!???

So after finally fnishing up a good size of he work I wanted to do to my 2005 crf250r I was going to replace the transmission and engine oil. Engine oil went off without a hitch, the trans, not so much.

Once I was done draining the old trans oil I went to put the check bolt back in. All of a sudden, its about two sizes too small. The threads left in the crankcase cover look great, but the bolt I swear I took out is too small.

I can't for the life of me figure out what happened. Either a helicoil fell out of the hole or some gremlin ate the proper size bolt.

Now I've got to pull the cover off the crank case and try to find whatever insert was in the check bolt hole.

I was just about done and ready to go for a ride this weekend :(

No actually this is a different set of threads. Not sure if the previous owner knew what a torque wrench was.

I could easily find a bolt that would fit but I'm scared there could be a small heli-coil rattling around in my transmission.

This bolt hole I'm speaking of is for the transmission fluid level check.
