    08 Starting Problems

    by Sentins746 » Sat Apr 05, 2014 11:30 am

I recently had the valves re-shimmed, and now my bike starts 1-2 kicks when it's cold. But after it's been running it doesn't want to start. I have tried different ways of starting and eventually it starts, but it takes a while.
I was thinking that the valves could be too tight, is that possible?

Just wondering what i should try next?

that's what it sounds like is that there getting tight. did you bench shim it or do it with everything torqued down? bench shimming really only gets you close. you have to fine tune it once you get everything else set in the bike.

Thanks, I think the problem is bench shim and the valves were done on the tight side, but my main concern is if the problem is in the carburetor?
    like a clogged jet?

if it starts and runs fine when its cold I would get the valve lash set first, then worry about the carb. carb problems are usually cold or warm, except in really rich or really lean cases.
