    2010 - gearing for trails

    currently has 13/50 fitted and runs out of legs in the open, i'm about to order some new wheels with sprockets/chain and wondering if their is a better ratio I should try.

    Its alot easier to change your front sprocket, rather then your rear sprocket,cheaper too. Check out this chart. I have a 06 crf450x I run 12 in front and stock 48 in the rear. It is an awesome set up for trail riding...keep in mind that's the only kind of riding I do. No track riding or street riding

    final drive gearing is always a mixed bag of compromises. you can get higher top end speed but that comes at the expense of torque in lower gears. so, you have to determine which compromises you can accept and which you can not. this is often a function of what you ride most and what your skill level is for the type of riding you do.
