    Chain life?

    by mappsterr » Sat Apr 06, 2013 5:45 am

My son's 2012 250r has 56 hours on it and is ridden 90% track/10% trail. I realize that a lot depends on how hard he rides, but what should be the normal chain/sprocket life? The teeth on the rear sprocket are not pointed.

    Thanks.

Life is more related to maintenance and environment and what quality of chain/sprockets, than how hard rider charges. Keep an eye on the front sprocket, you will see teeth starting to hook before rear sprocket wears completely out. It's due to the chain stretching and you can also monitor wear by pulling chain away from the rear sprocket, if it pulls more than 1/2 the height of the tooth it's time for new.
