my son rides a 2011 crf 250 which has done under 30 hours the last 2 times he has rode the bike it has ended in big crashes.both times he has tried to change gear aproaching a jump when he says the bike has gone into neutral he thinks between 3rd and 4th or 4th and 5th the bike then seems ok,another thing this only seems to be happening since he had new boots should i split the bike and check the gears to be sure or i also thought about a different gear lever thanks.

could be just his new boots but before you split the cases it wouldn't hurt to adjust his shifter and/or get a new one. sometimes new boots are either taller from the sole or shorter. either will require a shifter adjustment or a rider adjustment. shifter is always easier.
