    Bucket Size Comparison

    by riosmark458 » Wed Aug 29, 2012 8:36 pm

Does anyone happen to know how much bigger the valve lifter/shim buckets would be on a crf450r compared to a crf250r?

as i said in my other post, engine internals is not the place for "close enough" work. valve component tolerances are by design and must be maintained for your engine to run properly and without risking further, often more expensive, damage.

I do and i appreciate the advice, really.
With all due respect, being someone who is around this all the time i didn't think you would avoid the answer so much.

not at all avoiding the question just not wanting to encourage you. ;-) your head must be replaced. if you don't want to follow my professional advice "as one who is around this all the time" that's your choice. however, after giving you this advice, it doesn't make sense for me to then measure up buckets to help you pursue what is a really bad idea. so, just opting out of this one.

riosmark458, I hope you dont take this the wrong way but what the hell are you thinking? You seem obsessed over this issue.

Even "if" there was a small difference in size, why would you want to bore out the hole just to get it to fit.

There is absolutely no performance or mechanical gain to doing this what so ever! If anything, you are ruining a perfectly good head!

actually, he's not looking for any performance gains but rather to fix this damage to his head. i totally understand looking for a less expensive fix but in this case the only fix is also the correct fix...replacing the head. bummer for sure.

    Assume. lets start a pool.
to qualify each participant must donate some old (but usable) bike part and shipping to the winner.

i pledge an OEM front brake roter guard from a crf450x 2005
    i give it 20-21 hours.
