    I need Carb Help

    by uclafan31689 » Sat Jun 04, 2011 4:07 pm

So, I did the whole AP replacement deal, and im still not getting gas to spray. Gas is getting TO the carb, but thats about it. Can someone get me a picture of how the AP diaphragm goes into the housing? I think I got it right, but just want to make sure. Anyone got any ideas? All the jets are cleaned as well.....

here's a snipit of the service manual that should help you verify your diaphragm install:

the pin should be facing down.

was the original diaphragm deteriorating? if so, it's possible a fragment of rubber may have clogged the AP nozzle or passage to the nozzle.

also, when you are checking for AP spray, remember you have to whack the throttle quickly and deliberately to get pump pressure for spray. the AP nozzle hole is very small and it could be clogged. force compressed air through it to see if you can clear it our or verify it's open.

I was hitting the throttle pretty dag on hard, no spray. Ill take it tomorrow and use a compressor to blow the sprayer out. Should I try to blow it out from inside the flot bowl area? Or is there a better way to do it.

the nozzle has a very small hole it in so it would be better to force air directly into the nozzle hole. you could also try a wire in the nozzle. if this doesn't work then you may have to separate the mid-body from the main body and clean the passages. doing so is not for novice mechanics however and if something goes wrong there aren't replacement parts available typically.

did you try a wire in nozzle and at the other end? try that first.

i'd be shocked if your honda dealer would know how to fix it. if everything has been cleaned and blown out and is otherwise functional then the only answer is something is clogging the AP passage way. the only way to really clear it out is to remove the mid-body to get to the passages and nozzle.

Im assuming the nozzle your talking about, is the one that would literally be spraying the gas. That hole, is SUPER tiny up top. I dont know how to get to the other end of it to get a wire in there. Sorry, this is my first carb ive ever really touched.

yes...the nozzle i'm talking about is where the actual spray comes from. you'll have to remove the carb to get to the hole. you can try compressed air first but if that doesn't work then you may try wire. you can also try the other end at the AP cover end.

I guess ill have to try to find a wire that small.... now, on the other end, where is that hole at? inside the AP cover?

carbs just confuse me a ton. i can see or at least semi explain in a small way how some of the other major parts of the bike work, but the carb, is a whole another story.....

the AP circuit is fairly straight forward. the AP rod pushes the diaphragm down which forces fuel through the AP cover. you'll see the passages in the cover. follow those with compressed air and a wire if necessary. you'll see the matching passages on the carb body were the AP cover mates.

    what do the jets do?

Ill try to clean it some more tomorrow i guess. Hardest part is going to be finding small enough wire for the nozzle hole.

there are different types of jets found in a carb. the pilot and main jets meter fuel into the carb. here's a link to a how-to on rebuilding a carb:

read this carefully and it should help on many fronts.

you can but carb cleaner is very hard on rubber found in the carb. it can breakdown the rubber requiring them to be replaced.
