One tooth less on the front: too much ?

Thinking about going one tooth lower (12) on my 06 250r for woods riding & staying stock on the rear. Is this too much ? Anyone here have that setup?

    Oh yeah.Don't do that.
That thing will have you doing the herky-jerky all over the place.
Trying to make first gear more like an off-road bike is a complete waste of time, it won't happen. Second gear, whether it's a 250 or 450R isn't too bad, a tooth or two on the rear is all that's needed really.
You mentioned woods riding though. Those of us who run an R with a Rekluse never, ever stall and we can get away with those motocross too high ratios in first and second, no problem. It makes woods riding a real pleasure.
If you don't want to spend the money on a Rekluse, then a Steahly flywheel weight can help you out, increase your idle a little and add the tooth or two to the rear.
What you're considering is a common error, easy to make, but in reality it will have your gear ratios all jacked up chasing something that'll never happen.
So, a Rekluse would be my first choice and flywheel weight second, and an extra tooth or two with either. Otherwise, there's going to be a lot of kicking going on if it's truly tight woods riding. Doug
