    crf250 or crf450? (5' 8", 170lbs)

Tampa, Florida, will be getting one in the next couple months, May, June....part of tax rebate! Can't decide from 250 or 450, i loved the 2003 crf450 (rode yzf450 also) loved the Honda, handles better for me. will be riding trails, big air, clay tracks, hardrock ocala, etc. I've been getting mixed input about crf250 may be better for me (smaller guy) but i love the power of the 450! lots of sand in Florida. i heard that the crf250 may be easier to throw around for me. any input? Price is pretty close from what i've seen, have to get used one for now. $budget: $3000
what about maintenance 450 vs 250? or other costs?
    thanx
(always rode cr, kx and rm 250's (2strokes-) want 4stroke now, after first ride on 4stroke, no going back for me

I am 5'8" 185 lbs and ride a CRF250. I have no problems with the power. I had the suspension revalved, other than that it is stock. I love the way I can manuver my bike on a MX track or on tight trails, and have no problems keeping up with the 450's in the desert. Learning to shred on a 250F will make you a much better rider in terms of corner speed, etc. But, when the fuel injected 450 comes out I'm most likely stepping up.

I ride both and, for the kind of riding that I think you are describing, I prefer the 450. Yes, its heavier and feels like it but the torque of the 450 make it easier to ride, especially in sand. Also, you don't have to keep it screaming all the time, just relax and ride a gear high and let to torque do the work. On the other hand, if you plan to ride tight terrain through trees or rocks, the 250 is the way to go. I have had very little trouble with any of my Hondas but its likely that the 450 will require somewhat less maintanence than a 250 simply because you don't have to rev it as much. Actually, to be honest, I just traded my 450 for a KTM 300. Best of both worlds, just as light and quick as the 250, nearly as much power as a 450, and no valves to worry about!
